Students who are selected to receive specialized training will have the opportunity to work with professionals in a variety of settings. Using speech-language pathologists and audiologists from the greater Cleveland/Akron area who are experienced in testing and providing clinical/educational services to children with hearing loss, trainees receive opportunities to have special practicum assignments at the following locations:

 

Cleveland Clinic Foundation: The CCF has a cochlear implant center which also provides aural habilitation to cochlear implant recipients.

University Hospitals: UH has a cochlear implant center which also provides aural habilitation to cochlear implant recipients.

The Auditory-Verbal Clinic at The University of Akron: The University of Akron’s Auditory-Verbal Clinic is one of several university-based auditory-verbal clinics in the country. The clinic has been in operation for over two decades.

Region #9 Regional Infant Hearing Program (RIHP): The Ohio Department of Health funds several Regional Infant Hearing Programs (RIHPs) throughout the state of Ohio.  These programs provide services to families with babies and toddlers identified with a permanent hearing loss.  There is no charge to the family for these services. RIHPs are designed to meet the needs of the family and service delivery is usually home-based.

Millridge Center: Millridge Center is an auditory-oral program based in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, which serves children from birth to grade 5.

Stark Project for Educating Audition in Kids (SPEAK): SPEAK is an auditory-oral preschool classroom where children with hearing loss learn to listen and talk.

Beachwood City Schools: Beachwood City Schools provides opportunities for students to learn language through the Total Communication approach.

Akron Public Schools: Akron Public Schools provides opportunities for students to learn language through the Total Communication approach and spoken language approaches.

Private practice: Speech-language pathologists in the area, who work with deaf and hard of hearing populations, also provide learning opportunities for students who are H.I.P.P. Trainees.
